Tekran Soda Lime and Impactor Frit Changeout

Purpose:  Replacement of the Soda Lime Trap and Impactor Frit.  Placing a soda lime trap in the 2537 analyzer INLET LINE has been shown to cure passivation, while not impacting the ambient mercury values.

Required Equipment:  New Soda Lime Trap

                                           New Impactor Frit

                                           Impactor Frit Removal Tools

                                           Adjustable Wrench

Reference:  SOPMAN Pages XX-XX

Before changing the Soda Lime Trap or Impactor Frit take notice of the sampling sequence.  The status flag for Hg(0) is “0”.  If the Tekran is running in Hg(0) mode then put it in stop mode.  If the Tekran is in any other mode then wait for it to finish the cycle before putting it into stop.

Replacement of the Soda Lime Trap

  1. The trap has ¼” Teflon™ end fittings. (See figure, above.) Install the soda lime trap just before the Model 2537A Sample Inlet fitting. Cut the existing tubing and insert the trap. If required, use wrenches to tighten the end fittings.

  1. Note that, in this location, the trap is subject to only the flow taken by the analyzer itself. (For example, in Model 1130 systems, the trap is not exposed to the entire 10 L/m flow taken by the denuder.)
  2. Allow the system to sample zero air for approximately 30 minutes to establish that residual mercury has been purged out of the trap. This can be most easily dome by turning ON the Pump Module ZERO AIR switch.

Impactor Frit Changeout

  1. Take the Impactor off of the Tekran.  Remove the boot if necessary.

  1. With the impactor off use the two Frit removal tools to remove the Impactor Frit.

  1. The white impactor “OUT” tool screws into the impactor on the Inlet side.  Notice the size of the hole in the Impactor “OUT” removal tool.  It is different from the Impactor “IN” installation tool.
  2. With the “OUT” tool in place use the three prongs of the Impactor Removal/ Installation Tool to push the Frit out of the impactor.
  3. Install a new Impactor Frit.  NOTE:  If this is the first time the Frit has been removed, turn it over and use the clean side of the Frit.  One frit should last for two changeouts.
  4. To install a new Frit screw the “IN” Installation Tool into the Outlet side of the Impactor.

  1. With the “IN” tool in place use the flat side of the Impactor Removal/Installation Tool to push the Frit in place.  Try to seat the Frit in the holder as much as possible.
  2. Install the new Frit and impactor back on the Tekran Inlet.
  3. The installation of a new Frit is now complete.

When all parts have been changed be sure to put the Tekran back into RUN mode.
