Tekran RPF and Zero
Filter Changeout
Purpose: Replace the Regenerable Particulate Filter
(RPF) in the 1135 inlet module, the zero air filter in
the 1130 denuder module and the zero air filter on the 2537.
Required Equipment: RPF (Obtained from URG)
Two Filter Wrenches
47mm 1um Teflon Filter
Reference: SOPMAN Pages XX-XX
Before changing the filters
or the RPF take notice of the sampling sequence. The status flag for Hg(0) is “0”. If the Tekran is running in Hg(0) mode then
put it in stop mode. If the Tekran is in
any other mode then wait for it to finish the cycle before putting it into
stop.
Replacing the RPF
- Make sure a good RPF is available. Currently all RPFs are sent to URG for
refurbishment then URG will send two clean and ready to use RPFs back to
the site.
- Open the front of the 1130 denuder module and the
top of the 1135 particulate module.
-
Looking at the RPF from the top of the 1135
there is a Teflon elbow on the right side.
Disconnect the elbow from the 3/8” quartz tube of the RPF.
- If the RPF has a mounting bracket, loosen the
screws holding the RPF in place.
- In the 1130 denuder module there is a red
connection on the left side that holds the denuder and RPF together. Loosen the red nut that is connected to
the RPF and slowly pull the RPF up and out of the 1135.

- Install the new RPF in reverse order by slowly
pushing it down through the 1135 and tightening the red nut onto the RPF.
- Tighten the mounting bracket screws to hold the
RPF in place. If this is done
properly then there is less chance to break the RPF.
- Reconnect the Teflon elbow on the 3/8” quartz
tube of the RPF.
- The new RPF installation is now complete.
Replacing the 2537 Zero Air Filter
- To replace the 2537 zero air filter put one of
the filter wrenches on the outlet of the filter housing and the other
filter wrench on the inlet. Note:
In most cases the outlet of the filter is already sitting in a
filter wrench. This makes changing
the filter possible with the use of only one filter wrench.

- Using the two wrenches loosen the filter
housing. The tubing connected to
the top or inlet side of the filter housing may need to be loosened so
that the tubing doesn’t twist.
- After the two halves of the filter housing are
separated pull the old filter off and replace it with a new 1um Teflon Filter with the smooth
Teflon side up & the fibrous backing side downstream. (The Teflon filter is made by Pall and
is a 47mm – 1um filter. The product
number is R2PL047 and comes in a package of 50. If they are ordered through VWR the part
number is 28139-125.
- Put the filter housing back together and cinch it
down using the filter wrenches. Be
sure to tighten any tubing loosened during the changeout.
- The 2537 zero air filter changeout is now complete.
Replacing the 1130 Denuder Module Zero Air Filter
- To replace the 1130 denuder module zero air
filter put one of the filter wrenches on the outlet of the filter housing
and the other filter wrench on the inlet.

- Using the two wrenches loosen the filter
housing. The tubing connected to
the top or inlet side of the filter housing may need to be loosened so
that the tubing doesn’t twist. It
is very important that the tubing doesn’t twist. If it does it may break the RPF that is
upstream of the filter.
Be
sure to tighten any tubing loosened during the changeout
- The 1130 denuder module zero air filter changeout
is now complete.
When the RPF and all filters have been changed be sure
to put the Tekran back into RUN mode.
