Tekran Glassware
Cleaning
Purpose: Clean any external glassware on the 1130
Denuder Module.
Required Equipment: DI Water
Methanol
Zero Air or N2 Source
Reference: SOPMAN Pages XX-XX
Before cleaning the glassware
take notice of the sampling sequence. If
the Tekran is running in Hg(0) mode then put it in stop mode. If the Tekran is in any other mode then wait
for it to finish the cycle before putting it into stop.
Cleaning the 1130 Denuder Module Glassware
- At the bottom of the cabinet there is a heated
boot covering the inlet. Unsnap the
boot and leave it hanging from the bottom of the denuder module.

- There is red connection on the outside of the box
at the bottom that holds the denuder and the inlet together. Loosen the red nut that is connected to
the denuder. Be careful not to torque the denuder.
- Completely remove the inlet by loosening the nut
that holds the Teflon tubing for the zero air.

- With the inlet removed it can be disassembled into
5 pieces. Two quartz pieces, two
red cap connections and the impactor.
- The two quartz pieces need to be flushed with DI
Water. If there are any particles
that cling to the walls of the quartz, scrub them off and then rinse with
DI Water.
- After the two quartz pieces have been thoroughly
rinsed with DI Water, rinse them with Methanol.
- Using either the zero air from the site or the
zero air from the Tekran, dry the two quartz
pieces and set them aside.
- Inspect the two red cap connections for any worn
or deformed O-Rings. The O-Rings in
the two pieces are made of white teflon and a
clear heat resistant rubber. The
white teflon should always touch the glass when
connected.
- Clean the impactor by removing the Frit and
wiping it down with a kimwipe. If
the dirt or grime in the impactor doesn’t come off, use a small amount of
methanol to help loosen it.
- With the impactor clean, replace the clean Frit
or use a new Frit.
- Reassembly all of the parts and connect it to the
denuder. Be careful not to torque the denuder.
- Reattach the heated boot. If the boot snaps are hard to put
together apply a small amount of Krytox grease to each snap.
After all inlet pieces have been cleaned and
reconnected be sure to put the Tekran back into RUN.
