FRM Inlet Flow Check
Purpose: Follow the steps below to perform FRM 2025 inlet flow checks.
Required Equipment: Bios flow measuring kit
Inline flow adapter
Psychrometer
Reference: SOPMAN
1. Install the high cell on the Bios, rubber tubing, and the inline flow adapter used with the 5400 and Dichot.
2. Record ambient temperature and barometric pressure from the FRM display by pressing STATS (F2) two times. Record barometric pressure from DAS (BP) and ambient temperature from the psychrometer.
3. Remove the right side collector magazine, cap it for cleanliness and set aside.
4. Remove the pressure tubing from the bottom of the left side supply magazine and install this magazine on the right side.
5. Insert the screen filter magazine into the left side magazine position and connect the pressure tubing. Make sure that the filter is indeed a screen before advancing.
6. Press the Run/Stop button two times.
7. Press Audit (F1) one time.
8. Press Menu two times to get to maintenance screen.
9. Use the cursor to select Audit and press enter.
10. Press Filter Advance (F4) one time. This moves the screen filter into the sample position and today’s sample into the sample magazine.
11. Remove the supply magazine from the right hand side, cap for cleanliness and set aside.
12. Remove the PM10 inlet hood.
13. Connect the Bios tubing from the “Outlet” side of the cell to the inlet using the inlet flow adapter. Be sure that the tubing does not crimp and restrict the flow.
14. In the Audit screen, press Pump (F1) once and Valve (F2) once in order to begin flow.
15. Turn on Bios and wait until main menu appears then press the enter key.
16. Hold down the “select” and “enter” buttons simultaneously on the BIOS for 2-3 seconds and release to begin recording flow.
17. Record VAve at 10 cycles from Bios. Complete this three times.
18. Record CurFlow from the FRM display.
19. Press Valve (F2) once and Pump (F1) once to stop flow.
20. Remove the inline flow adapter and replace the PM10 inlet hood.
21. Take off the left side screen magazine and replace with the supply magazine. Connect the pressure tubing to the bottom of the left side magazine.
22. Press Filter Advance (F4) one time. This inserts today’s sample back into the sample position and moves the screen filter out. Catch the screen filter and put back into the screen filter magazine for safe keeping.
23. Reinstall the right side collector magazine.
24. Note the “Time out” status, if this exceeds 1 hour than filter must be marked as partial sample.
25. Press Run/Stop button one time to get back to “Run” mode.
26. Enter data gathered into electronic flow audit form under FRM inlet. The Flow Audit form is found in the Flow Check menu on the top toolbar of the Site Manager software.
27. Enter into Site log
a. Bios flows
b. Ambient temperature and barometric pressure from FRM and DAS
c. FRM flow from display on instrument
d. Percent difference as calculated from the flow audit form
